WinMX isn't that much different then Napster now, but until about a month ago it used to be awesome...like 60,000 users at once. It used to connect to ALL the servers at once, not just say 'waiting to retry'. Audiognome was way up there in users too, sometimes even higher. But after the RIAA confiscated the main OpenNap servers, other large independant servers started shutting down (possibly forced to by the RIAA?) and smaller servers can't handle that kind of traffic. Even though WinMX 2.1 has more networks available then 1.81, it doesn't seem to sign onto multiple servers as often as . Can't stand all these new //Want Que messages on 1.81 tho. But recently neither on has been signing onto any network except Napster . :(

well i think audiogalaxy sucks. i downloaded it after reading some great reviews, but it's about half as fast as napster, and i hate the web interface. also, i hate that you can't listen to the song you're downloading until it's done. i tried getting gnutella awhile ago, but it didn't even work. i've been thinking about trying bearshare. i've never heard of audiognome or that winmg program. i still like the layout of napster the best. you're right you can definately find what you're looking for usually. especially if it's obscure, then it's not even 'filtered'

Napster still works for me... there interface is what I've gotten used to and no song is unavailable... plus, Phish has soooo many live songs (from tapers) on there that they can't even begin to screen them.

I've been using WinMX recently...although it's not much different considering its main server is napster, so you still have trouble with blocked files and all that bullshit...honestly I don't even download much anymore. I get a few songs from an album, and then I just end up buying the CD and deleting the files (which I suppose is more respectful to the artist on my part). BUT...napster is definitely great for rare stuff, especially Radiohead b-sides and just about any live material you're looking for. My only props to WinMX: resuming files. Very handy.

I downloaded bareshare, and uninstalled it about a half hour later. I didn't like it one bit. I'm going to really miss Napster

IRC is good for some things, music is not one of them :P BearShare for the gnutella network is the best for music ;) Best thing about BearShare is the RIAA or anybody else can't touch it. Completely decentralized.

You sure morpheus.com is the place to get that? I just went there and got a dns error. I'm not sure the site's up.... Maybe they got shut down.
