hmm jsut a cool find

a. growing in up state NY, by one of the finger lakes, some growing out of an old rotting stump and some out of the ground but in very close proximity to the stump

b. the gills are orangeish, the are attached to the stem.

c. i did not get messaurements because i did not have a ruler :confused:

d.stem was orange and was sold but hallow in the middle

e.the cap was flat with a bit of wavyness...looked liek they were very mature..

f. no print...i was not that concerened about eating it

g. no brusing evedant... jsut a slight change were stem was broken..

h. very earthey...not a bad smell

just cerious.. i also found a bunch of cool reshi growing next to it(this is jsut one of the rishi.. there were alot of younger ones..

looks like a big laughing gym... might bruise blue at base, smell is fruity, taste is extremely bitter... check for a ring or renemants of one. if it's them you got some actives. otherwise you got yourself a clump of jacks. peace.

Looks more like Jack O'Lanterns. Gymnopilus should have rings on the stems, and not have decurrent gills.

A spore print is the easiest way to distinguish which they are. Gymnopilus have orange to rusty brown spore prints, and Jack O'Lanterns have nearly white ones.
