 tell me whats wrong with my grain (PICS)

I made a thread a few days ago asking questions about why I am having problems with grain. I followed Magash's tek to the T and I have done 3 different batches (each with a different simmering time). To me they look dry in some spots and wet in others. They were knocked up with some organic honey water. These pics were taken last night. The jars are 2 weeks old and this is always what happens, I get a couple of spots on each jar and thats as far as they ever get.Magash told me he has had problem's with this particular brand of grain (Bob's red mill-rye berries) but we both know of many other people who use this brand with success. If anyone uses this brand please let me know you preperation details so i can get this right. Also if any of you are wondering why I don't just switch brands and go on I have 2 reasons A. I just bought a 25 lb bag B. It really bothers me when I can't get somthing right that I know should work. Thnx in advance to any and all comments. Sorry the pics are kinda crappy.

i had this same problem when i tried to nocc some grain with spores. try to nocc'em with liquid myc, that should work better.

When i said organic honey water I ment liquid myc., I just happen to use this organic honey instead of karo or malt or agar.

What's on the top of the jars - just coffee filters, or is it a coffe filter over a lid? Is there a hole in the lid if there's a lid?

their are four holes in each lid of the jar. I knock the jars up through the holes and put a band-aid over each of the holes(thnx Magash). Than I put 2 coffee filters over each lid. I am going to switch to tyvek here in the near future though.

mebe too much liquid in each jar? BTW, you only need one hole for grain jars

Your jars look a little full. I have filled mine up to high in the past and only the tops colonized if anything at all. How manyy cc's did you innoculate with?

I use 2cc's per jar, the reason for the 4 holes in more points of innoculation. Shaqattack you bring up a good point about them being to full but I looked at the tops of the jars figuring/hoping the tops would be colonized but oddly enough the tops on any of the jars have no spots of growth which makes me think that I have the mositure off but to be honest I am not sure if it is too wet or to dry. I have about 15 jars in my tub in tub going right now and when I check it (ever other day) Their is always condensation on the lid of the incubator and to look inside the jars their is condensation but to look at the grain itself it looks dry......yea so like i said I am getting a little bit steamed over this whole grain business.

did u shake your jars after PCing? and after u knocked them up ?
I was not haveing any growth then i shock the shit outof them and the next day BANG alot of little spots all over

One point of innoculation is sufficient for grain. This is because you can shake the hell out of it after you innoculate it. How about you try a different brand or try some popcorn...

You know you can use one hole and just move the syringe around shooting it all over the surface of the grain to achieve the same results, there's a thought huh?

I had some Myco bags of rye that I innoculated in the center of the bag with 5 cc's. They never finished or turned white att all. I didn't read enough before I got started. Too much innoculant, I didn't "shake" the bag, and I also read to shoot it between the rye and the side of the bag. Not dead center in the rye like I did.

thnx for ever ones help for a solution to my problem. I think I am just going to wwrite this grain off and say fuck it. As far as when I do it with a different brand Less grain in each jar and i will only use one of the four holes, I think I will also use 1cc per jar instead of 2. Can anyone tell me if the grain looks to wet or too dry or just right?

Rye is less picky about water than most other grains are, chances are is moisture is a problem, it isn't too dry...
