Headless Pins in Colonization Stage
    #3000308 - 08/13/04 01:10 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Jimmy went to his colonization area. He looked at a jar that was probably 80% colonized two days ago, but now it is fully colonized. However, he also noticed an inch long "headless pin." It is a long strand of white that is attached to the cake. Two smaller ones (2 mm maybe) are seen next to it. Will these grow to be pins? Or are they a sign that Jimmy screwed up? You decide.

are they very thin and fibery?

if so, probably not pins. I think it is just rhizomorphic growth .

That's what it sounds like to me too. They look like roots, sort of?

Yeah, but I didn't think rhizomorphic growth would be an inch long!

Now that you mention it, it does look like a young root (but larger).

I dunno man, I've had rhizomorphic strands like that wrap around a peice of geolite in my PMP and they had to be about an inch long.

Ive had some inch long ones too..especially after shaking and making a space in the middle..it would span between the top and the bottom. Sign of a strong strain I think..

Well the headless pin grew a head in 7 hours. Any ideas why that happened? It's longer than any of the pins on a cake that has been birthed for a week.
