drip shield spacing question

I didn't find anything in the FAQ about this so I posted it here. Precisely how far should the space be between the terrarium and the drip shield? I've got it now so there is barely a crack. I know the recommendation is to have bolts to support it so I assume there should be a considerable gap. Can I get away with it, the way it is? I know trial and error, but I want to get it right the first time. I would post pictures of said design but I don't have a camera. Any help would be appreciated.

as long as air can move from top to bottom and vice versa and the shield keeps water from dropping on the mushies then it's all good!

As high as your terrarium allows, gives the little guys a higher ceiling so they don't hit their heads. Make sure it is steep enough so water will Coanda down the underside instead of drip off.

i think he is talking about between the sides, not the top and bottom.

So do you have to have a drip shield? Can't I just use a rubbermaid tub with a lid on it, set the cakes on perlite that's in the bottom, and open it every day to mist it/fan it?

no, i would not recommend that. If u still care about this thread at all. Here is what * did. He bought two identical sized rubbermaid tubs. 14 gallon ones. Then he took one of the tubs and drilled 2 holes directly across from each other through both of the shorter ends of the tub about 1.5 in from the bottom. Dental floss was then ran through the two holes and tied very tightly so as to form a nice "back bone". Then two sheets of foil approx 4 ft each were folded in half twice to make a nice thick A shaped tent inside the rubbermaid, with the tip of the A pointing toward the bottom (obviously) The foil is inserted into the container underneatth the dental floss so that the dental floss makes a straigt edge on the fold and supports it. The dental floss should be running down the middle of the tub the long way near the bottom. Fold down the edges of the foil that stick out of the opening undeath the lip of the container to secure the foil tent. Then turn the whole tub upside down and place it over the other rubber maid. This is what * had to do because after building a PMP * realized that (s)hehad no room to make a condensation diverter. This design is cheap and it keeps water from dropping on the cakes. as well as give em a little bit more height to grow in. On the down side if u aren't using a PMP like * is then u may have a prob with humidty, * uses a 30 gallon air pupm to keep humidty and air circulating in there.

i sa fuck drip sheilds ... all you need to do is wipe pertroelium jelly all over the top of your your lid and the water cannot grasp that to form condensation droplets.. it will settle on the sides and reuturn to the water at the bottom of your terrarium.. end of story.. easy too..

this sounds like it could cause mutations in the long run.
