M. oreades? (pics)
    #2991144 - 08/11/04 12:41 PM (19 years, 6 months ago)

I thought so first, but now I'm wondering...
1. central AL
2. unattached, spaced, white
3. cap ~3" on mature specimen, viscid on immature, less so on mature
4. stipe ~6" & tough as hell, no veil
5. spores white
6. no bruising
7. smell somewhat pleasant

another view... daddy, momma, & jr

And as a bonus, a couple of Lepiota lutea/AKA Leucocoprinus (they're just so darn pretty)

Thanks in advance~

I don't think they are Marasmius oreades. That species doesn't have a viscid cap.

Try wrapping the stem of one of your specimens around a finger. The stem of M. oreades is very tough and flexible, and you can usually wrap it around a finger without breaking it.

Check to see if the stem on your mushrooms extends down into the ground a bit lika a taproot. You may have to dig in to the ground a little, because if it does the stem is likely to be very fragile there and it will break off easily.

At first glance your mushrooms look like Collybias of some sort. There are, of course, several satellite genera making the ID more complicated than that, but that should be a start.

Happy mushrooming!
