No Fruiting Off Millet
    #2990706 - 08/11/04 12:38 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

I've had success growing with BRF and decided to switch to Millet cuz I've got millet around the house, I've had great success with colonizing the jars and fast too, but I can't get them to fruit, the conditions are kept the same as with the BRF...Temp is usually around 75-80, humidity is up in the 80s and air exchange is good...I'm not gettin anything though, what am I doing wrong?

you'll want to boost your humidity a little, scratch the tops of the cakes with a fork, you may have overlay...

yeah, i was tryin to do millet cakes and see how that went then move on to casing, i wanted to see how my success went with cakes first rather than have a huge bulk of mess, and so far it's ok, just no fruiting and now there's some overlay

Oh, it will dry out pretty quick then, that is probably what is wrong, the BRF and verm will have more moisture b/c of the verm, but the millet probably doesn't have it added. That is the main reason why you have to use a casing layer with grains. It might be a good idea to go ahead and mix up some verm and water, nuke it for about 5 minutes and crumble up the millet into a little pan and put a layer of moist verm on that and stick back into the incubator for about 2 days, then fruit it. Or maybe you could have the humidity as close to 100% as you can. Moisture will be the key, remember that mushrooms are 90% water....

My millet didn't fruit until I crumbled up the casing. Then it fruited - from the parts where there was a good mix of verm from the casing layer, and millet.

Next time I'm going to mix the millet with some growool and then case with 60/40, should be 100x better.
