Perseid Meteor Shower
    #2990254 - 08/11/04 08:17 AM (19 years, 8 months ago)

Anyone know how visible this will be in the NE part of the US? I know the PNW can see it just fine...I'll be getting out of the city tonight and out into the country somewhat where the air is clear...can't wait to sneak out with my girlfriend and our friend to her trampoline, smoke a fat bowl and lay down bouncing lightly while the meteors buzz by!

Sounds like a hell of a time. I haven't even heard of the meteor shower. I live in Maine and I hope it's visible here. Cool beans.

Great link, much thanks man. That would be cool as hell to see, haven't seen a meteor shower in a while.

The annual Perseid Meteor Shower is underway with peak activity expected after midnight and during the early morning hours of August 12. As the "fireballs" streak high overhead you will get to see another spectacular sight right before sunup. Look over towards the eastern horizon around 4:30 a.m. for a beautiful crescent Moon, brilliant Venus and a bright Saturn adorning the predawn sky. And in the background you will find some of the brightest stars of the Northern Celestial Hemisphere located in the constellations Orion, Taurus and Gemini. You'll also see the "V-shaped" Hyades (with its bright, orange star Aldebaran) and the Pleiades star clusters directly above the "shield" of Orion.

That's for outer New York, so I don't see why the clear skies of Maine wouldn't offer you the same! The peak is from midnight to dawn...puff session at 1 AM!!

Me too, my girlfriend lives in Westchester and the skies there are ridiculously clear compared to NYC so it'll be a relief to not only be under the stars, but hundreds of flaming rocks too
