still no change. my friend has decided to removed part of the peat moss on the top layer to expose some of the mycelia.....this stuff appears to be quite developed and has bonded with the casing....the mycelia just didnt seem to be growing up to the top and this was the only decision we could come to.
the top layer was only about 1/2 to 3/4.
any last suggestions welcome.

Make sure you are not over-watering if you are misting twice a day.

mcman, no hygro..not sure what that is...simply have been misting twice daily.
around here, shrooms come up like crazy in the fall when its not even close to 87 degrees...this is quite a frustrating little hobby.

Sloth,
With the use of agar and isolating strains, it has taken me two months to see the first pinning, and I know exactly what I'm doing. Don't be frustrated-this is your first time and you're using a more "complicated" method.
First of all, when the mycelium runs through the peat moss casing, it may not fully colonize. There are very little nutrients in peat moss relative to the substrate your spawn grew on. Little strands should peek through it and when you mist the casing directly, they may completely disappear. This is normal. Like McMan said, you need to raise the temperature up to 80-86 degrees F. to speed up colonization. Tearing off the casing layer may slow things down because the mycelium has to recover completely before it can start pinning.
In the wild, the mycelium grows optimally at 80-86 degrees F. When the temperature decreases and the humidity increases, they start to fruit. This is why shrooms come up like crazy when it's not even close to 87 degrees.

the other thing i noticed is that when i leave the light on for 8 hours...the very light white frosting on top layer of the peat dissapears...i thought maybe the light was too much for it...so much to think about...its a full spectrum florencent for fish aquariums.

Think its a bit late for that Mcman. Sloth do yo have ANY pins or primordia yet? Anything? What yor saying is unfortunate... sounds like you've done everything correct so far. maybe a 'scratch' might help it, but no promise, you probably should've deep scratched it instead of removing half the casing.

Thanks to all and Pavlovs Dog. It has been over three months and as of yesterday, my friend saw three shrooms beginning to develop. can you blv it?
so our question now is two fold. we don't see a lot of small "pins." just these three developing shrms. is this going to be a problem.
how should misting be handled now?
do you think this 3month long growth period will help with a bigger end yield?

Ease up opn the Poland Spring Water a bit, as long as thee is moisture on the walls then yuor humidity is over 90%. Overwatering is a major cause of problems.
Especially when they start pinning. They are almost like sponges and will absorb the moisture out of the air. To much and they will abhort.
Be careful with those little guys. There is prolly not much nutrition left in the cake so thats why they might not ge to big.

thanks captain max...exactly what we were looking for. it doesn't take long for that casing to look bone dry though...if you say don't mist it--thats what we will do.

If anyone still cares about this I agree with Sloth the temperature is probably the slow down warm it up to about 77-83 degrees I've found this works wonders even through fruting

my post was based on the thought that you're nearly to the end of the colony's normal lifespan, not much food left, prolly bacteria down below, which is what delayed things so much.

Yeah sloth, I think the hippie is right, 3 months, you most likely have some kina contam underneath...... after your few mushrooms finish, try this..... put a clean plate on top of your casing, then flip it over and lift the pan off.... and check. If it looks good, return it.. if not, toss it and start again with one of the easier methods.
Sorry to hear it sloth
