Not only does it seem to speed it up some, but the mycellium are thicker and more luxurious. My budI also put colloidal minerals in the EQ jars with the different flours in the other post. I don't have a frame of reference since I had never done pf jars before, but they really seemed to do well.

BTW- Sorry for all the posts at once, but I borrowed a camera.

Thanks. Some of the dishes are wrapped in saran wrap, others have just a band of saran wrap around them and still others have micropore tape my friend just bought to try out. The microtape is $3.50 a roll and works really well.

The agar used is from FP with a touch of antibiotics. Then my Bud supplements the ME with Brewer's Yeast, Spirulina and Iam's Puppy Chow. Plus in these he used the colloidal mins plus a little gypsum. A big plus IMHO. He boils the water and tries to get the agar to dissolve, which it reluctantly does of much coercion. Then he adds the remaining stuff in an erlenmeyer flask with a polyester fiber cloth (wound tight and wrapped with electric plastic tape) as a stopper (reuseable). Then he pc's for 20 min. The pc steam is released with a fork under the bulb, and the agar mix poured while hot in front of a cheap HEPA. Only contams so far was from a contam'd syringe. Hi tech pot holder* is used to grasp the flask neck for pouring.

Hi tech as in the pot holder in the kitchen drawer.

Agar dissolves nicely in a microwave. Trying to make agar on a stove top is quite difficult. It either wants to stick to the bottom and burn or boil over and it takes a lot of waiting and stirring. A microwave is the best way to make or remelt agar.

My friend boils 500 ml of spring water with the supplements and then puts it in a blender and puts in the 3 level TBLS on slow whirrrrrr. Then boils in the microwave. Then pc's for 15-20. Too much pc and the agar boils over into the pc'r. Ughh.

Does it ever carmelize in the microwave? Ive had fantastic luck just putting my agar jar in a pot of slowly boiling water.

Not with 4-5 short bursts that just bring it to boiling. You have to watch it like a "Hawke" or it will boil over. ;-]
