True, it is only as bad as you let it. Personally I don't see where you could have a "bad" trip persay, maybe not the state of mind that you want, but you can always change it, just listen to some easy listening tunes if that happens, you can't go wrong. Let the mushroom guide you. If you takes you down, see how far you can go, same with it taking you up, just enjoy the ride... it is all an experience, you can't have good times without occasionally have bad ones....

I think the trouble is that once people are thinking about bad trips it's like "don't think about the pink elephant" You just have to keep your mind busy and don't think about it.

also, ALWAYS have what i call a 'bail out CD' if im doing the pitch black introspective thing and it gets to ugle, a little bit of bob marleys 'dont worry' or 'three little birds' is gauranteed to turn things around. Or kyprios feeling alright, or atmosphere breathe in breathe out...

I play music...my favorite instrument to play on mushrooms is guitar though. Mainly electric or classical.

Just let go. Sometimes I start to drive myself crazy clinging to stupid thought loops and stuff, then I have to remind myself to just let go.

Putting some good old Grateful Dead on my headphones usually helps too.

Nothing sets off a bad trip as much as thinking it will happen. This fear is usually by people not ready for tripping. Great point felix.

Biggest misconception I have ever heard is the famous:

"Once you know your having a bad trip that's it you just have to accept it and ride it out"

That is complete crap, I have actually been in a car accident in the middle of the night in mountains of B.C. in
the middle of nowhere on 6 g's.

Wasn't fun, but wasn't bad either, it could have been allot worse had we gone
on a bad trip and started looping out.

Yeah, I agree. This is definatly not a correct statement. Perhaps to people with less experience it is. It's been years in which I have been in a situation that I couldn't turn a bad emotion or thought into something positive.

It's all about being able to "turn the page."

Even people with less experience can flip it around if they are strong willed and strong minded.  On my first trip I started thinking I was going crazy (which i assume is fairly normal) and started to heat up like I had a terrible fever.  I was laying on the floor in my room with pink floyd playing and it didn't seem right.  haha it was the only time in my life that listening to breathe upset me.  I felt like something was soo wrong and was scared to shit.  Looking into the mirror caused my face to crack and turn pale and eyes to turn black.  I figured it wasn't leading in the direction I wanted at the time, so with alot of will power I went for a walk outside and found a beautiful grove of trees that completely turned me around.  From then on, I've always found myself wandering there for various reasons, including tripping

Its all in your head and is completely reversible with the right mindset.  Its always best to have a buddy who is tripping too.  I tend to hide away from sober people when I'm in outer space.  Having someone who is going through the exact same thing as you to talk to is awesome  especially when he has a box of whippets too

when the going gets rough i just do my best to let go. humming or singing to myself usually works, too.

if all else fails, bjork has this song on her vespertine album called undo. works like a charm.

I put in Sigur Ros.  They don't have a bad bone in their body.  Some of the most beautiful sounds ever recorded on any format.  It has never failed me yet.  Definitely try them.

In the words of Timothy Leary...

"If the subject is prepared to diagnose the symptoms of ego loss, he needs no outside help at this point. Not only should the person about to give up his ego be able to diagnose the symptoms as they come, one by one, but he should also be able to recognize the Clear Light without being set face to face with it by another person. If the person fails to recognize and accept the onset of ego loss, he may complain of strange bodily symptoms. This shows that he has not reached a liberated state. Then the guide or friend should explain the symptoms as indicating the onset of ego loss.
Unfamiliar with such a state, which is an ecstate state of non-ego, the consciousness of the average human being lacks the power to function in it. Karmic (i.e., game) propensities becloud the consciousness-principle with thoughts of personality, of individualized being, of dualism. Thus, losing equilibrium, consciousness falls away from the Clear Light. It is thought processes which prevent the realization of Nirvana (which is the "blowing out of the flame" of selfish game desire); and so the Wheel of Life continues to turn."
