I had one that my cat knocked over that ended up the same way. I was able to fix it, but I may have just gotten lucky. I would let the thing heat up until the wax was just starting to soften, and then put it in the fridge to cool down. Repeat... a lot... took about a month for the clouds to go away. Instruction booklet said it was a loss.

I talked with somebody else that had a similiar problem and they claimed that leaving it somewhere semi-hot (attic in their case) without movement for long periods (they forgot about it and found it years later) of time fixed theirs.

Edit: also with the fridge thing.. my main concern was the glass breaking from the change in temps. I didn't have a problem, but be careful.

Just run it till fully hot then turn off. and repeat. It will clear in about the same time as these other solutions. Basicly you need to melt it all so it can begin to gel together again.

Quote:

Q. Why is my globe cloudy?
A. The only reason the globe will cloud up is if the lamp has been shaken, moved, dropped, or caught in an earthquake while the lava was warm. This is no fault of the manufacturer and is usually a permanent malfunction. After a Lava Lite has been dropped of shaken, you may be able to save it if you immediately turn it off and do not use or touch it for 72 hours.

The lava lamp site claims once this clouding happens it can never be reversed,
