Picking outdoor grows
    #2978579 - 08/08/04 04:50 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

How do you guys prefer to pick your outdoor patches? Someone i know has a outdoor patch thats started fruiting and hes got some fat monsters growin. He picked the first few last night but it was pretty messy. Split the stems and such.

Should he use scissors instead of hand picking? They're really fat and stubby so he'll probly have to use a knife.

I wanna hear what you guys do when picking your outdoor patch.

Scissors will likely do more smashing of the stem than cutting, so you'll end up with split stems that way too, unless they are ridiculously sharp. A very sharp knife would work good, probably a serrated one (like a steak knife or such) with a light sawing motion if needed. If it's not sharp, it'll rip em up too so make sure it's sharp. Or just get razor blade like a boxcutter or such. Usually a little twist will separate the stem at the base right at the knot, why isn't that working?

You are supposed to take the shroom up from the root.

Do not leave a stub because it opens the mycelium to infection.

Alot of people hold the mushroom from the base and twist it.

yea he went back out today and picked some more and the twist and pull move worked perfectly, not sure why those first few yesterday were being so tricky. Probly because they were clustered which made it a little more difficult..
