I dunno exactly what happens....but I want to run Norton's defragmenter overnight. Will system standby screw that up? I don't know what that is exactly. Will hard disk off screw that up?

Just turn your monitor off overnight as it defrags, the hard drive needs power to defrag.

standy pretty much turns your comp off without actually turning it off so that you can use it again in seconds. so yeah, it'll stop defragging. Try defragging in Safe-Mode if it's taking forever -shouldnt take all night.

Even other programs running can cause problems with the defrag. You should always defrag from Safe-Mode, to be safe.
