when that movie first came out on video, a couple friends and i ate 2 hits of butterfly acid one night and drove 2.5 hours to watch that movie. when the movie was over, i drove back home.
the funniest part about it was that i already owned the movie.

I own the Criterion version of this flick on DVD. It's got a BBC documentary of HST and Mr.Stedman 'redoing' the whole fear and loathing road trip. with a whole bunch extra of ralph arriving at owl creek from england.. It's awesome, live footage of Hunter rolling a joint, and also taking a line of coke.
The movie looses my interest when there in the hotel room and hunter is tripping out iwth the war footage.

Wow can't believe you haven't seen it, enjoy! One of the best films and best books ever.

It's because when you read the book, you picture things, characters and events with your own twist. rather than some director's view on it.

Thompson actually made up a lot of the story. It was originally wrote for a short stroy in Rolling Stone.

It's not that he made it up, or that it was true. It was his experience. Whether he made it up or not, with all the drugs involved, is beyond the point because the experience was how he wrote it down. I don't think I'd consider it fiction or non-fiction - it's defiant.
