are 3 year old T. peruvianus active? and ready to dry?

Hello. Ik have many T. peruvianus cactus. They are about 3 years old and 10 cms. I would like to know if they are allready active and if it is any use to cut them and dry them?

There is a chance that they have some alkaloids in them, but at that size, there won't be a lot.

What you need to keep in mind is that your cacti are only just now coming into their optimal growth range. While it has taken them 3 years to get to 10cm, they will probably grow at least 10cm more this season, and 20-30 cm from each season after that!

In other words, even if there is alkaloids in your cacti now, ITS NOT WORTH CHOPPING THEM YET~!!! Personally I think you should wait until they are at LEAST 1.5ft (45cm) tall, which could happen in just 2 years from now. That way you can harvest 30cm or so from the cactus midsection and still leave a 5cm stump and have a 10cm tall cutting to plant again. However it is optimal to not harvest a cactus until it is over 2ft tall and at least 5cm wide. Harvesting them this early will minimise your production long-term.

Thank you for your good advice....I will let them grow and indeed it seems that there growing speed increases exponentially!!
