another bomb.

OK, I got 2 x 1 litre WBS which are 100% colonized. They are in a pyrex tub with foil lid, there is 3 inches of substrate and 1 inch of spare room. Im think of just adding a sterlized layer of Vermiculite to this tub/jar and covering it up till it is fully colonized again, then subject it to the usual triggers like a casing.
Is this ok ? Thanks again people.
Peace.

Should work beautiful. One suggestion would be to use a mix of 70/30 coir/verm it makes for much better pinsets than straight verm because of it's superior structure (microclimate) when casing it make sure to keep that casing real moist to the point of glistening until the myc pokes through then pull all the triggers at once and don't mist until the knots develop reddish/brown spots (primordia) I've done 100's of bags of WBS and cased right in the mycobags then packed them into bins for some awesome yields back in the day. Just use straight coir. The myc somewhat colonizes the coir and absorbs moisture much better then from verm. I never liked verm except for starting MJ sprouts. Steralize your coir in your pc, mircowave, or with H2O2.

Cheers again dcyans! I will use your method and borrow a digi and show you my results.
I hear casing should only be kept in a fruiting chamber that is around 80% humidity? Should I just sit the 2 cases in my PF fruiting tub (with perlite) maybe with a loose lid to keep it at about that range ?

The problem with straight coir is it dries out way too quick and makes keeping the casing at optimum moisture a real pain IMHO the addition of verm makes it much more user friendly GL

Hmmm Coir, Verm, or coir/verm ?
I have 2 coir casings, 1 verm casing, and 2 50/50 coir/verm casings.
My problem with the coir has been overlay.
The Vermiculite has no pins but the my broke through 2 weeks ago. It should start any day (I think I had a RH problem with that casing).
So far the one that has moved the fastest and seems to work the best is the 50/50!

Casings can be fruited at 92% no problem. It also helps with substrate shrinkage at this RH level.

92% with no problem? Am I understanding a higher humidty is bad for casings? I got 99% according to my meter, nothing forming on walls or dripping but there are no real temp fluctuations on the inside of chamber as opposed to ouside to cause condensation. Is this to much for my casings?

Are you fanning enough? 4-5 times a day? No higher humidity is fine as long as you fan and introduce plenty of fresh air.

I never had problems with moisture on straight coir casings and there have been discussions and straight coir always is the favorite. Mist for the pinset then every 1-3 days depending on how it looks. Then mist heavy and hydrate the casing for the last day 10-24 hours before harvest.

Lucky you I myself always keep the casing hydrated, thus never having a thirsty shroom. And why would you want to plump them shrooms up with excess water at the end? It's all got to go anyway GrOwer. I've been doin this since the seventies so I've seen it all, been there done that and all that shit, now I'm just a stubborn old culture that will always be growing just wish 6T (Mycota) was still here! Really miss ya Bro

I fan like every 30 minutes when I'm home but monday-friday I'm not home for like 10 hours. Plus when I'm asleep.. So its not regular but they do get 6-15 fans a day depending on the day and such. My large chamber is a closet type setup with a cool mist hooked up which is what my real setup is, this is just a small thing but the closet also maintains 99% humidity so I was asking about that too.
