is this optimal?
    #2973218 - 08/06/04 06:45 PM (19 years, 8 months ago)

ok, first time.
I have the temp in my terrarium at 80 degrees f.
i have all the cakes colonized in it about 1 inch away from each other.
i have a 30 gallon air pump pushing air through 2 bubble wands in a 14 gallon terraium.
IS THIS GOING TO WORK? at least for the pinning stage?
i also have a light that turns on and shines through the tub for 3 hours a day. Please help !?!?

sounds good, mabye too nuch air exchange but not sure. whats the humidity? temp is good for now but when pinning starts you will want to have it at 75 degrees.

You want a 8-10 degree drop in temp from incubating to fruiting which  74-77 is optimal for fruiting, incubating is 82-84, remembering that actual colonizing substrate temp will be 2 degree higher because of metabolic activity. One more thing you will get consistantly better yields when you coincide your pinning triggers (fresh air exchange, light (12-16hrs. for best pinning stimulation) and yes this does make a major difference, and temp drop ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!! This is very important for consistantly great flushes. If ya got light and fresh air going on them you wanted also to have a 8-10 temp drop AT THE SAME TIME! Shrooms will produce under a variety of conditions but having a pinning strategy that works awesome everytime is just a whole lot more satisfying when it come to harvesting! GL

No before negative, temp drop is a important pinning trigger dude! you want all triggers AT THE SAME TIME bro, AS SOON AS YOU INITIATE PINNING/FRUITING

doesnt it need to sit for a week or so at about 80 degrees until i start to see little knots? Then reduce temp and add light?

82-84 is optimal but to answer your question no, as soon as you see myc poking through the casing 20-30% then that is the best time to initiate pinning, depending on how vigorous the myc is you may have to initiate sooner this will give you the correct "window" and should make for a very nice pinset. Remember to keep that casing at "near saturation" in otherwards "glistening" but not drippin with no runoff until myc pokes through then leave it alone during pinsetting as you will have optimum moisture for a excellent flush. The window I speak of is known as the transition period from veg to generative growth (fruiting) and this doen't happen overnight! GL
Knotting is part of the pinning stage FYI

Cakes can be initiated as soon as they are birthed even if double ended as this is mainly just a water reservoir anyway. GL
A 24hr. fridge dunk after birth, then placed in the fruiting chamber also helps yields
