i read that there was some kind of microwave tek. could you actually do this instead of pc'ing the cakes? could someone post any info or a link.

I think someone said that you can have reasonable success with boiling, if you leave the prepared substrate for 24h, boil, leave 24h, boil, leave 24h, and boil again. Microwave should work too, if you compensate for lost water.
This germinates endospores and then kills them. It is repeated to make sure that all of the endospores germinate. You might need/want to leave it longer than 24h each time, I don't remember exactly.
But I managed to find a little PC for ?10, brand new, and it will be more effective.
