This time sounds like a failure to me.......Tape at this point IMO would be a waste of tape.......I am assuming you used a PF tek.......with no incubator.......But with only a dime size growth after two weeks?

Can u give a bit more info?

peace

i had this problem with my first... i got a incubator going w/ rubbermaids and set a wet(sterile) towel on the bottom. The first took a very long time to colonize. Maybe you just didn't have a high spore count in your injection. SHaking it up really helped my second batch.

Syringe.  You cant shake PF tek jars, only grains.

Your jar should be fine if there's no contams. Tape it down i guess.  Some PF teks take a long time.

Likely nothing, since the substrate is pretty set to where it is if you filled them right (full to about 1/2 to 1 inch below the lid, and then dry verm over that = full). The only thing I might see happening is you might move the protective dry verm layer around and sort of defeat the purpose of it. You can still get contamination until the cake is fully colonized (and a dime size area sounds like around 10% colonized) - and even then you could still have issues in some cases so it's best to leave the verm layer mostly undisturbed during the incubation until fruiting time when you take it out of the jar anyway. I have similar temps in the room, and mine didn't do much of anything until I went and got the couple things needed to set up a "Tub-in-Tub" incubator, and it's pretty easy to make and even easier to use after that. Might cost about $30 for the stuff unless you already have a submersible aquarium heater which is most of the cost. But certainly well worth at least 3 times quicker results. Mine showed nothing for a week, and then after the incubator was set I plopped them in there and had a dime sized spot near each of the four injection sites the very next day (perhaps 36 hours). Also if you got too much water in those puppies I seem to find they colonize much slower, for lack of oxygen most likely - there should be some dank verm/BRF but some somewhat evenly but randomly spaced small air pockets between. That's why you aren't supposed to pack the mix in the jar as you set them up, but just gently spoon it in so as to have these nice air pockets. Eventually, the myc grow out into these same free spaces and also use the oxygen present there. So not enough air space will make for less area to grow into easily, and at the same time supply less oxygen which will force them to sort of hibernate or at least stop expanding as fast. I think that's why using whole solid grains like corn works so fast, is you can't help but have a bunch of little air pockets between round objects in a jar.

In my opinion whole grains like corn are easier than PF substrate in that the air content and water content are easier to get right. I think I am going to trash my last batch of 12 PF jars that have shown no signs of life even in the incubator after 5-6 days now, and take one each of the other four out of six first batchers that actually worked, clone those mycellium in malt or karo, and then use that solution to reinject the jars redone with corn and/or maybe a few with birdseed (millet) and see how that does. And then shaking the jars does help spread the myc around since the grains are loose without spongy verm all around them which adds to the speed of growth.

But your jars, if they seem to have some reasonable air pockets, look nice and moist (but not moist to the point where water is in the "air" pockets) then you probably just need to get the temps set a bit more like 85 degrees and more contantly, so the incubator is needed. You can do without seeing as you did get some sprouting so far, but really it just slows the whole step down considerably (3-4 weeks at least, not 2 or so). So don't just give up and change to corn/millet like I am going to do - that was just my opinion I was sharing as to that it just plain seems easier to get success. I still have those four from my first batch that worked pretty well and are 95% colonized after less than two weeks in the incubator (three since innoculation but I don't even count the time it was just in the room without incubation as actual grow time since nothing was happening).

Hope I helped.

if the temp on average is about 70-75 degrees it could be over two weeks before you spot any growth. find a warmer place to keep them or just forget about them for like 10 days then check em out.
