dunking question..

should you dunk before you start fruiting, or wait until after the first flush? also do you need to take the cake out of the jar or just pour water into the jar and place jar in the fridge?

if you dunk prior to the first flush, would you do this if growing invitro?

dunk before each flush, including the first one.

as far as HOW to dunk em...
I read to take the cake out, but I was recently told to leave it in and just fill it up

Before I finished typing this, I dunked a cake myself for the first time.

here is what I did:

-Took off the cap
-Poured water in until the cake level (including the dry verm layer...I left that on) exceeded the jar's
-Put the cap on slowly
-Cleaned water that spilled out during the above process
-put tinfoil back on jar, and put it in my fridge

i would think that you remove dry verm before dunking, does anyone know if you should or not?

Phroz told me a plus to leaving it:

it holds moisture, right? SO it's more direct moisture for the cake to get from.

Also, something I noted based on what he told me: if you are using a setup that doesnt have the smoothest surface to place the cakes on...you can use that inch~ to "mold" onto the enviroment.

if your gonna dunk, and if you actually have pins, dont dunk on the first flush, wait till you pick em all off, then put the cake back in the jar and fill the jar with water, put it on air tight like and turn it over so its sitting on the cap. let it sit in fridge 12-24 hours, no more than that though, and take it out and roll it in dry verm. then lightly mist the dry verm and your ready to go on the next flush.

If you had a shit load of pins you don't dunk period :wink:

. A few are are fine to pick and actually you'll help the first flush by eliminating the early volunteers! :wink:
