    #2967937 - 08/05/04 01:04 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

I found these mushrooms in Harriman Park, NY last week.
Can anyone tell me what they are?

Any advise is highly appreciated.

Could be boletus bicolor but these seem to be lacking the red on the stems.

I don't like the way they bruise. Those look like the poisonous variety. I think it is like the ONLY poisonous variety.

The Red Mouth Bollette

Boletus Subvelutipes.

Don't eat them and wait for a second oppinion.

the bicolors sporeprint is supposed to be olive brown... so that rules that out...

It's not Boletus Subvelutipes because Boletus Subvelutipes has Olive-green spores.

I found this web site http://www.mushroomthejournal.com/coma/ey/Boletu113.html

My mushrooms all stained blue, the pore surface and flesh.

I can't quite tell from the photos - is there a pattern of netlike ridges on the stem surface? If there is, does it extend more than halfway down the stem?

There is a lot of blue bruising in the photos. When you bruise the tubes, do they bruise blue/green in more or less than 30 seconds?

What kind of trees were they growing near?

Happy mushrooming!

1. yes, there is a pinkish pattern of netlike ridges on the stem surface that extends more than halfway down the stem.

2. They bruised blue almost instantly.

3. Sorry, don't remember types of trees.

With the trees, were they pine-type evergreens?

If you cut one in half vertically, does it have a distinctive odor inside?

Happy mushrooming!
