Moisture Plus & Activated Charcoal as casing mix?

I was just wondering if this would work well. You've got the activated charcoal to get rid of the CO2, and the moisture plus is quite superb. Anybody have any ideas?

Well some of the best tek's here came by expermintation!
I say try it and let us know of any good results.
Using strange things for casings is not unusall at all. shit I have used grass clipping with great success and I also used dirt from my yard mixed with gravel with poor results!!
Once I tried using straight perlite which worked just fine.
Part of this hobbie is the fun of trying new things. Gor for it!

activated charcoal shouldn't be a problem. It is often added to casing mixes in order to trigger fruiting in species which usually require certain bacteria in the casing in order to fruit. Apparently the activated charcoal will trigger fruiting in otherwise sterile casings.
Just check the pH....and post your results.

my biggerst concern is that a casing mixture consisting entirely or primarily of activated charcoal might create quite a mess.

I guess if it is entirely charcoal then it might, depends on the size of the particles though. Gravel can be used as a casing, and in some studies has outperformed more traditional casing mixes. I would guess therefore that gravel sized charcoal would be more effective than the finer charcoal usually used for filtering purposes.

I used to keep fish (cichlids), and I have lots of leftover shit, including this stuff called activated carbon, it was used to removie various chemicals from the water and stuff, its about the same size pieces as if you were to buy coarse Verm.
I was wondering if I could use this or add it to a mix to grow more shrooms? Or has anyone else ever used it?

Thats quite interesting..
maybe in the future you will be able to purchase that bacteria to add to your casing in order to produce more plentiful flushes...?
