He knew of the first plane before he went in for his photo-op at the school. He was told by Andrew Card about the second plane during his attempt at reading "My Pet Goat".
Instead of getting the hell out of there to see what he could do he sat there like a sitting duck. Supposedly he didn?t know if the school would be the next target.
What?s this about SAM missles was my question to afoaf.

I'm making my decision based on what I thought I remember them saying what he was told. I thought that he was only told that a plane crashed into WTC. I'm not sure what all information he was given. But if that was it, then why even suspect terrorism?
It has been so long now though I admit I'm not sure what was found to have been told to him.

My guess is he was told to sit tight, but start wrapping it up and they would get him out of there as fast as they could.

If the first plane had crashed before he started the photo-op then the main criticism that comes to my mind is why he was doing a photo-op immediately after a huge event like that at all.

I would hope that SAMS would be SOP. That doesn't sound that unusual, they are portable.

Bush sat on his "I am tough on terror" ass waiting for the someone to tell him what in the hell to do. 7 minutes of wasted time he could have reacted, dispatched fighters or cleared the school to prevent harm to the children. Did anyone notice that after the last terror announcement for NYC when everyone was told of a possible pending attack that Laura Bush, GW's Mother and one of his daughter's were in NYC the very next day to help open Wallstreet. Do you think Bush would send his family in harm's way? maybe he knew the terror alert was just another political ploy?

Stein has a point. Bill Clinton did everything for the children. And when it came to young interns, he liked to do just about everything to the children.

That's a good point. If terrorists did know where he was and planned on assasinating him, SS probably wanted to double check and secure the perimeter. Since they were gonna need a few minutes anyway, why have him run out and cause undue panic.
I'm pretty sure he arrived at the school by motorcade. Does anyone know if he left that way? Since they wanted to get to Air Force 1 ASAP, maybe they got a chopper?
My main point is this. We can create scenarios where it would have been advantangeous for him to immediately leave, but does anyone here actually think in what the actually happened that those 7 minutes would changed anything?

Bitching about terror alerts is another futile argument. If there were an attack, and it came out that they had information about it but sat on it, would you then say "Yeah that's too bad, but it sure beats getting warned all the time!"
