P Torch pup !
    #2966933 - 08/05/04 07:28 AM (13 years, 1 month ago)

the torch i recieved in a trade last year has finnaly made a pup. i just wanted to share.
it has grown straight out from the base of the catus and it is also trying to make a pup on top. it looks kinda strange, i will get some pics of it when my up load limit goes back up.
hope you guys & gals dig the pics.

also after that pup has had a little more time to grow can it be removed and rooted in another pot, kinda seems like i would disturb the root system trying to remove one from the base of another catus because the pup came straight up from the ground, like it grew from the roots of the bigger one. i am extremely new to cacti so any help i would greatly appreciate. thanks.

There is no need to disturb the roots. Let the pup grow until it's large and you can take a cutting from it. I would not do any cutting below the surface of the earth because it might get infected with rot or something. You should have given a photo of the mom. Are you sure its a peruvianus? It may well be but the spines in the larger plant look very big.

thanks man yeah i think i will just leave it be and mabey get a cutting from it next year.

yeah i am pretty sure it is a Peruvian, at least thats what Jojoba said when we made the trade and i deffinately trust them. here is a pic of the whole cactus and the spot where i think it is making another pup.

anyone else think this might not be a torch?

i have no doubt its a torch! and of the spiny ones!
the low pup will have its own roots! but you sure can cut it out if you keep the soil dry long enough to heal...

Yeah, that's a torch. In the first photo it was a close up that made the spines look huge.
