Chocolate mushroom questions
    #2966320 - 08/05/04 01:01 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

#1-What chocolate works the best? I recently saw some sort of Nestle chocolate syrup that you put on your icecream and becomes hard; would something like that be adviseable?

#2-If the shrooms I am using for the chocolate are dry and potent is there a certian amount of time I can wait before I risk loosing potency? Other than storing the finished product iin a cool, dark place are there any other things I could do to avoid this problem?

#3-Should the fungi going into the mold be in a fine powder or larger chunks, keeping question 2 in mind.

Thanks in advance

That stuff gets hard because of the cold. It is liquid @ room temps

If you want you can buy the really big Hershey's bars. Or go to your biggest grocery store in town and you can buy chocolate by the LB. Its in the section were they have all the bins.

You are going to have to use a double boiler setup top melt the chocolate.

And yes you want them to me powder.

I have no idea how long they keep... the batches I make up don't last that long.

I find chocolates keep potency for a number of months. By mixing with chocolate, you are sealing the mush off from oxygen and light, which break it down. I've always kept mine in the fridge. I agree with fungi x.

wrap the individual candies in tin foil, that helps as well.

You can use nestles semisweet morsels. It comes in a yellow bag.

The finer the mushrooms are ground the more palatable. Grind it into dust and you'd never know you are eating anything but chocolate.

I have a friend that collected quite a few, his chocolates lasted months at room temperature but I keep mine in the freezer.

Chocolate may be nuked if done 20-30 seconds at a time, plenty of stirring in between. Mix the mushies in after its cooled a bit.
