I've been wondering about the LED idea. The thing that worries me is that LEDs put out pretty coherent light ( narrow bandwidth ) that is nothing at all like sunlight. Has anyone done this with no other light to make sure it works?? What colour would you use? blue, yellow, green, red, orange or "white"? Incidently, does anyone know how "white" LEDs work? LEDs seem like the ultimate for a small grow setup in the closet. I bought some blue LEDs off EBay a while ago super cheap, also check out www.digikey.com or even radioshack.

i use blue leds. radio shack. you will also need 470 ohm resistors. electric tape or soddering iron. this is perfect if you are bulk growing. the straw or hay makes its own heat. this way the led wont make any extra heat and you wont worry about thermal death. get some 9volts or something .

Blue LEDS actually work? lol, that's awesome, also for power, you can use pretty much any of the wall wart transformers from other small house hold electronics, just size the resistors appropriately.

Why doesn't everyone do this instead of making windows in their boxes? plexiglass isn't exactly cheap.
