Open trays and light fan for casing - good idea or no?
    #2964279 - 08/04/04 02:50 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

My casings are now in thier second flush and have been growing about a week. To stimulate fruiting I've removed the tops of the tupperware container and have a fan on low about 10 feet away from them blowing fresh air on them. I base this experiment on result I had growing musrooms in a vase with no top whatsoever. I had no problems with cross contamination and had profuse fruiting. Temperature around them is about 70-80. At night it stays chilly 70-75, during the day it ranges from 75-80. I mist the casing which is now 50% vermiculite 25%perlite and 25% peat - pH adjusted to 7.2-7.4 per sample. I inject spring water into the casing to moisten it internally every few day, when things start to seem dry. One of the casings has started to pin MASSIVE mushies, their caps are about the size of a silver dollar even folded down and the stalk is about the same diameter. Thier caps have a strange ring pattern on them, maybe mycelium from too much moisture but I don't think so. They are very pretty bands, but the last flush didn't have them odd. I'm looking for general advice on how to improve upon my setup and criticism of opening thier containers up to let them get lots of fresh air. Oh.. and they have a grolux light on them about 12 hrs a day, but I don't time it.

And there is where God lives, where the dead live, the spirits and the saints, a world where everything has already happened and everything is known. That world talks. It has a language of its own. I report what it says. The sacred mushroom takes me by the hand and brings me to the world where everything is known. It is they, the sacred mushrooms, that speak in a way I can understand. I ask them and they answer me. When I return from the trip that I have taken with them, I tell what they have told me and what they have shown me."

anyone I really need to know if this is a good idea - i might keep the "air shocking" going another day. I just don't want to risk cobweb mold. Mycelium have colonized some of the surface though, so I think that will ward off some infection.

Some of our best growers grow from a open casing...you just have to make shure it doesnt get too dry..
Most every casing i have ever done was without a terrarium at all

Casings need to be kept in a humid environment whether a bin or a RH controlled grow room it makes maintenance so mush easier. IMHO Lots of fresh air IME is absolutely needed for massive yields as long as any and all moisture is replaced!

It is not mine :frown: It IS a friends and my mentor. I can say the room uses a mixing box and is fully automated. I will not say anymore outta respect unless it's a general growing question not specifically related to his OP.
