How many 1/2 pint cakes to a small baking pan?

If I made 12 cakes altogether, and had 2 baking pans that are approx. 9" by 5" by 3" tall, how many cakes SHOULD I use per baking pan? I intended on using 4 per casing (2 casings of 4 cakes in each) and then fruiting 4 cakes themselves, but lately I been reading more and more and I think maybe I should use only 2-3 cakes per casing?
Any comments/suggestions appreciated
Thanks!

Thank you very much deviation for that info, and same to you psyllyme. I have just made my decision
if your wondering, im gonna use 3 cakes per casing, mainly because I just made 15 jars and im sterilizing them tonight, but with that info, and if I had room for more casings, I would only do 2.
Thanks!

I don't know, stuffing as much cake material in the pan has always made the best flushes for me
Don't understand how less would make more?

WTF? More food=more mushies, generally speaking... You just want to take into account a good depth:surface area ratio.

Here are two 1/2 pts. in a 9"x5" for reference only! These gave two strong flushes that was the first this was the second: I was happy to get a yield like this off only two 1/2 pts. This is what can happen if things are keep as close to optimal as possible.

A friend used 4 cakes for a pan about twice as big and ended up with a whole bunch of small fruits. The crumbled cakes made about 1" - 1 1/2" inches of substrate, but in retrospect he wishes he used a thicker layer or smaller container.

Dcyans - Can you briefly describe how you kept them at optimal conditions. What kind of casing mix did you use?
Thanks - D1

The strain is creeper and they are in a perlite bin with coolmist plumbed in. The coolmist created a ton of fresh air to the point where misting was necessary this is good though as with nature transpiration aids in massive pinsets and very healthy shrooms. I don't remember what the yield was but it was totally unreal for just two 1/2pt cakes. The stems dried very thin btw. yield is a direct response to usable surface area. I've always found 50/50+ peat/verm to work awesome because of it's prefect microclimate I have also used coir/verm at 50/50 and 70/30 and found that to work very well also. The only difference I've found is coir based casings don't need to be pH adjusted but they do tend to dryout quicker. GL
