Panaeolus subbalteatus Outdoor cultivation
    #2961103 - 08/03/04 06:45 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Ok, simple question. What would be a good substrate for Panaeolus subbalteatus to grow outdoors with? I'm looking for things that are easily obtainable.

Also, would you suggest that I start off mycelium growth in a jar or should I simply just put the spores in a spray bottle and let nature do the rest?

Thanks

Horse shit and wheat straw work.

You can use just straw. (I'm not fond of using horse shit either)

I've done Subb's on bails of wheatstraw with very good results outside, Liquid innoc.

>why not directly onto woodchips?

Panaeolus subbalteatus is a dung inhabiting species.

The reason for using spawn is the speed and the assurance of colonization. If you use spores outdoors it takes forever to start and many times never starts at all.

Also straw  We can't forget that Anno  Subb's grow like weeds and can be very prolific! this was one of the first shrooms I grew outside 10+ years ago. and like I said earlier I used myc syringes.

Alright. I figure that I will start in a jar. The problem would be sterility. I have a spore print nut no syringe (I know I can get them but it's a pain-in-the-ass). Are there any successful methods of innoculating a jar without the use of a needle?

pan subbs isn't that great as a psychoactive species. you can grow cubensis outdoors in georgia and they're better anyway.

Or I could easily hunt them in GA... which I do. I would like to start a patch which is reliable that I can get yeilds from for years to come.

if you can sterilise a few jars of soaked grain, you can (very very quickly and carefully in a really clean place) rub the spore print together or scratch it with a flame-heated paperclip over the just-opened tops, one by one.

I had actual Subb samples which I placed in 3% cut up then transfered to karo and blended in my Eberbach. It was just an experiment I did because of a bail of straw that Panaeolus subbalteatus had fruited on.
