I have gallon jars which once colonized I can shake up and lay out in the terranium case it and than allow it another 10 days to recolonize before adding light and dropping temp

Thworp, are you in an altered dimension where everything is huge? Sorry but I can't make sense of what you are saying. 3" and pans like puscle said. You are colonizing BRF+verm in gallon jars? How are you going to shake up brf+verm?? I'ma confusi.

I have to agree with you guys, sounds like you are doing this on a wildly large scale. How long does it take for you to get a gallon jar to colonize? With how many cc's of spore water? I know it has taken me almost 3 weeks for quart jars with 2 cc's.

Wow thank you all for the responces... I was reading something somewhere that the deeper one's substrate the bigger the mushrooms get...... to a point which I was to understand was 10" of substrate. I was just thinking that the brf/verm mix wouldn't work because yes they don't really shake.... I don't know maybe I could just crumble them up or use something else. yeah I was just thinking about doing this at this point. The PF tek with 1/2 pint jars so far haven't giving me a fruit over 3.5 inches, don't get me wrong it looked cool to me, i probably won't get around to doing this, hey I'm more than happy now, I just was going to try this and see if I could get those huge guys like 9'' to 12'' high. That would just be the coolest looking thing ever.... especially while enjoying its effects....To answer someone elses question I have seen gal jars innoculated with 5 cc spread out around the edge. However one needs a long needle or overall syrnge to reach down far enough. Colonization was noticable at 3 days, at 8 days it would be about half done, at 12 days it would be about 80-90% done, and by 18 days it would reach 100% but this is at an incubated temp of 82 as the core temp will get up to 86-87 degrees F and done in complete darkness with 90-95% humidity. Once again thanks for the responses!

One more thing: If you have access to horse dung. The use of horse dung and crumbled cakes alone should give you much larger shrooms. It is still unnecessary to use 10" of substrate. Typically people recommend 2-4" of subsrate. Perhaps an inch or two more would't hurt. In summary, the simple addition of dung to your equation should increase the size of your fruits. No need to go overboard with 10" inches of substrate. Perhaps cycle half (5"). and the other half later, when you have gotten three flushes off of the first....

So if one was going to use horse dung or any other similiar dung is there a place to buy it or would one need to aquire it via nature. And if used do you have to worry about contams? how do you sterilize it?
