Qestion about casings
    #2960513 - 08/03/04 04:25 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Should i put my casings in a terrarium? Can I leave them on a window sill without a terrarium? or do they need to be in a humid enviroment?

Wow hell of a question! You'll need to do a little RESEARCH first before attempting to grow mushrooms let alone casings. My suggestion would be start with the PFTek and follow to the letter. I'm assuming maybe your asking this question on the hearsay that casings create their own humidity which is not true in the fact that they still need to be misted and kept in a humid environment. he must indeed research. but imo it is pointless to do cakes. casings are pretty surefire, even for the average newbie. yields off casings will be better than cakes even if the grower has no experience. casings are easy, trust me.

I agree casings are easy TODAY I've got a few hundred under my belt already. The nice thing with PFTek is you can still do casings with it brf is easy to work with where grains have a tendency to give newbies problems where moisture content is concerned. The thing is starting a project without having a clue is not a surefire way to get anything. I've seen alot of failures from peeps rushing in overzealous. Ya know success is more important than yield when first starting out IMHO as not everyone will be as savvy as you TODAY. PFTek is a good place to start trust me, then you can use that (cakes) to do casings and then even more advanced teks. GL

thats exactly what im doing, Ive done pf before. Ive also done casings, Ive just never tried them without a terrarium. I was just wondering if it would work as long as i misted them on a regular basis.

well, i'd hope they'd be about as savvy as me on their first shot, have you been around to read my newbie questions for the last couple months? anyone can do a good job on first shot casings imo.

you could always do a little experiment. try it out then report, honestly, i don't know if it would work. i live in a pretty dry area so humidity wouldn't even be close to right for me.
