9 jars innoculated.
    #2957897 - 08/02/04 08:14 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

My Friend innoculated 9 jars a week ago. he checked them today and they all seem to be doing fairly well, except one hasnt got anything growing in it at all, and another seems to be going REEEEAAAALLL slow. could the reason be maybe not enough water in the substrate? what could cause this?

What temp are they being kept at (colder = slower)? Also, double check for contams, that might be a source of slowness.

heating pads are fire hazards or so i've heard. just go with the Tub In Tub tek. that works great and isn't hazardous.

....

what more info could you need? i mean MF does have 7 of the jars doing great, so they are apparently in the right settings right? i mean, i would just assume this....

but i will allow you more information.

yes, they are being kept 70-75 degress, they are in darkness.

also, the one that has been growing, but going real slow, at first i was under the impression that this one was contaminated, because it seemed to have over wet looking BRF along one side, like bacteria or something, but the myc started growing into it and it seemed to dry up, so i just assumed it was moisture. the one thats not growing at all however, i dont know about it.

MF made all the jars substrates one at a time, except for the first 2. when he made up that first bit of substrate he was worried about the water content, so after the first two he made the substrate mixture, one at a time. so this could possibly be whats happening here.

clarification:

when MF first started making substrate, he was gonna make 2 jars of substrate at a time. so the first two jars substrate was made together, using 1 part BRF, 1 part water, 2 parts Verm. after worrying that the water content might not be right though, he decided to make the substrates one jar at a time.
