Introducing myself to the forum * 3

I found this forum through Reddit, which I recently joined to find some help for growing mushrooms.  I plan to seek guidance in the “fucked up all-in-one” thread but feel I should introduce myself first.

I guess the real bottom-line that brings me here is my lifelong (age 57 this month) struggles with alcohol and marijuana for the most part, with a few other drug-types sprinkled in, and of course the depression, childhood trauma, self-harming behaviors/thought patterns, and emotional baggage that can be intertwined.  Cognitive behavioral therapy and EMDR have gone a LONG way toward helping me, but alcohol and drug abuse have been a roller coaster struggle.

I was able to stop the booze a few years back, but the weed was tough.  In spite of self-medicating with weed, my utter abuse of it had profoundly harmful effects on my mind and body.  Getting access to mushrooms a little over a year ago has absolutely transformed me.  So much so that my wife’s gift to me last Xmas was a mushroom starter kit that SHE took charge of, from inoculation to harvest.  I have just been helping with some fresh-air-exchange, harvesting, and dehydration/storage.

Of course there’s a lot more to my story and I have a shit-ton of gratitude for the great things in my life, but I am here because of the peril my harmful thinking and behavior have created.

I hope I am not coming across as a downer.  It’s been a hard fucking road getting here, no doubt, but my wife makes no bones about the fact that in the past year of once per month tripping on mushrooms, she has never known me to be happier and more relaxed.  I had a year of Penis Envy therapy, then some Thrasher PE, now enjoying our homegrown Golden Teacher with recently harvested Jedi MF planned for my next trip at the end of the month.

Penis Envy trips were anywhere from 5 grams to 11 grams, but after having some drying experience with Golden Teacher, I think the Penis Envy weight might have included some moisture and they were always a bit chewy.  5 grams of crunchy, crackly homegrown Golden Teacher clued me into how dry the shrooms can get.

Will be seeking some Hillbilly help in another thread.  Thank you for your time and for this amazing resource!

I am 3.5 years sober, so no tripping for me anymore. Even if I wanted to, I can't because of schizophrenia. Even with medication, it can cause drug-induced psychosis. But anyway, good luck with life, I hope you get better and better! Tripping is a major help for some issues, that's for sure.

Thank you Northerner....it's nice to know I am not alone.  I appreciate that you took the time to remind me of that.  As a loner in general, I know that being part of a like-minded community. 

Will def check the Hitchhiker's guide out, but will throw up some pics in the "save your AIO: thread first....time is probably of the essence!

Warm welcome, friend!  Super happy you found us and are sharing your time and energy here.  The human condition is full of foibles and legitimate hazards, and it's always refreshing to read reflections from another person that highlight our common struggles as eloquently as your post here has!

The icing on the proverbial cake, of course, being that you appear to have a wonderful partner who is working to actively support you in finding ways to improve your well-being.  That's an amazing asset.  Worth more than practically anything really.  And I hope that alongside that foundational pillar, our community might also help lift you up a little bit higher.


PS.  5 to 11 grams of PE would have me laid out! :toomuchacid:

PPS.  But if they weren't dried well, in addition to the weight disparity, that could also lead to a breakdown in potency, which could explain how you were able to consume such fierce fungal flamboyance. :mushroom2:

Danke nuds!  I’ve been poking around the forum and it seems like a great group of people that are quick to offer advice and support.  I am stoked to have a group I can get some advice from, not just for growing but also for enjoying the fruits of that labor.:mushroom2:

29 days.  FUCK YEAH.  And you’re right, WE can do this.  No joke, if you’re having a hard time hit me up here, we can chat it out or whatever.  I don’t have a sober date but it’s been well over 5 years alcohol free for me.  Weed-free is probably a little over one year.  CONGRATULATIONS.

Thank you geokills!  My wife is AMAZING.  Very cool of you to call that out.  Harvesting the other night, I mentioned how crazy it is that we are growing our own.  I mean, this gift wasn’t just out of left-field, it was like out of left-field from a whole other stadium in the next state over.  Friggin’ crazy.  Even when I unwrapped the dehydrator on Xmas, I literally thought she believed I was wicked into beef jerky.  Finally unwrapping the spores, it still took a minute for it to sink in.

She rarely enjoys a glass of wine.  She smoked weed with me once, well over 20 years ago.  2 weeks ago, she took 1 gram of Golden Teacher when I took my 5 and man it was a whole scene.  She cried a lot but kept to herself and said she found it cathartic.  She eventually settled in and was more relaxed than I have ever known her to be.
 
RE: 10 grams and 11 grams “damp” PE.  I didn’t realize the moisture could also reduce potency over time but it does make sense.  I was also buying by the ounce so I was getting many months out of one batch allowing time and moisture to conspire against potency.  (I aim for tripping once per month or so…..4-6 weeks between trips)

I am being super-vigilant about keeping it crackly now, and still careful about dosage whenever I get a new batch, but it is a great reminder for me to know that more experienced  folk are cautious around heroic doses.  I appreciate the info, thank you.
