its a little different than vermiculite..... it sorta fizzes and smoke comes out of it when you mix it with water... it says that it is derived from 100% natural minerals though... on the back of the bag it states: Vermiculite has been used for years, but vermiculite gets compressed over time loosing its benificial qualities. Schultz Multi purpouse soil conditioner's kiln fired ceramic like granules wont break down over time but will contenue working to provide pre-mixed or custom blended potting mixes with good qualaties of moisture retention, drainage, airation and root penitration. -------------------------------------------------------------- Abandon All Ye Hope... and i looked on thier website, but they dont have it listed! its description is close to "Schultz Clay Soil Conditioner", but it just says: "Schultz Multi-Purpouse Soil Conditioner"

i went to wally world today and felt a bag of that stuff. it felt harder than vermiculite. it felt like gravel or fertilizer pellets. good luck, but why not just use bird seed?

yea, but it gets softer when you wet it though

I bought this same stuff about a month ago. Imagine crushed non-glazed ceramic. What interested me to begin with was the 'instead of vermiculite' idea, as well as the potential benefit of the minerals [calcium, magnesium]. To tell you the truth, I haven't used it yet. Still have the bag, just never had the substrate to 'spare'. It's hard to believe that this stuff could be as water-retentive as vermiculite.

i just made a few jars with that stuff, (not inoculated though, i have not recieved my spore syringes yet, but i am expecting to get them very soon. ) i will tell you how it goes.
