Now I like to use these containers to make casings in  Now here is the thing. These containers are just fine going in the pc. Have done it a million times. Now why the hell am I using quart jars? Doesn't it make sence to soak, simmer, then just load the grain into the tubs and then pc it bypassing the jar. They have a airtight lid that you can use attach a tyvek filter to or even easier use polyfil.
You can still shake and everything like normal but when the grain is colonized just throw on the casing layer without having to scoop it out of the jars. Just seems like it would save a ton of time.

(The following post was done while smoking lots of blueberry buds. Remember this is how I came up with the poorman's pod  )

You know I tried something like that with plastic containers and here is what happened to me.

everything was good except when ever i moved the damn things the plastic sides would push in and out acting like a billows and pulling air in. No matter how good I thought I had it sealed up almost everyone of them failed.

I worked ar it a number of times with no luck

But you will figure it out and let us know how you did it!!!!

I got faith in you

 Little secret, I never post unless I already have. I had the same thing happen with some other containers. I use the glad ones cause they come out of the pc just like normal. Most any plastic with the number 5 in a triangle will work.

Cool you sly devil you !!

The idea of using those containers would save a few steps.

Excellent magash, will find plastic # 5 then

Thanks I thought the problem might be the type of plastic , just didn't pursue it long enough.

If I was a betting man I'd say he injects through the polyfill/Tyvek

I've got 1 litre Pyrex jars, I will just add a casing layer to em! (as the are 100% col. - wbs)They have 1 inch spare of room on top.

Exactly the same thing with a different tub! Thanks for the time saving idea!

Magash, how do you ensure that the surface pins evenly?

Good idea ,Magash!

I was always kinda worried that the seal would be a little loose after they came out of the pc. Guess I was wrong!

Yep. threw the tyvek just like a jar. Other then being in the tub I treat em just like they are in the jar.

Oh oh oh, I forgot. I like to use a bottom casing layer add that before putting in the grain if you use one too.

As far as pinning I treat it like anyother casing.

Why dont you do it? I have already done this, and it was totaly done out of lazyness. After a night of preparing jars, I made a "medely" of birdseed, rye berries, and even some BRF into a container about 1/2 the size of that. Added some tyvek that I got over at the USPS, PCed, took it out innoced, and then let go. Worked fine. Cased with a Coir Coir casing. The only problem was just  wrapping some duct tape making it dark on the bottom and sides of the container. I even thought of adding a self-healing injection site at the sides of the container. Never got around to it (bong hits).  Made me think of one of those "kits" you can buy. If you do it, more power to you!

i tried to case some colonised jars of popcorn directly in the jar, the casing layer never colonised. i suspect its because the mycel needs to be stimulated into growing into the casing layer by being broken up.
