Looks like the pics of them in the FAQ. http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23418
I've read to beat it you must pasteurise longer to rid excessive ammonia? Straw was done 45 minutes @ 170f, it's obviously contam'ed with other gems. Yet same process worked with a cased straw batch.

ouch. how wierd is that, when you are trying to grow shrooms, and other shrooms decide to rain on your parade. cant you just clip em off and let the rest of the myc flourish?

No I tossed it to the compost. I don't know if inky caps produce toxins in the substrate and I won't risk it. I hope I don't get them again.

Yeap, those are inky caps.
"I've read to beat it you must pasteurise longer to rid excessive ammonia?"
This is true.
"Yet same process worked with a cased straw batch."
What about the environment, was it the same ?
"I don't know if inky caps produce toxins in the substrate and I won't risk it"
I don't think the toxins can be transferred to another specie but anyway, probably it doesn't worth saving, too much competition .... Nice pic btw, bad mushroom !!

>>>What about the environment, was it the same ?
Not quite. The former that worked was a cased tub, the latter that failed was a straw bag. The other difference being the room temps with the former at 25C (Autumn) and the latter at 20C (Winter) so the colonisation was very slow.
>>>I don't think the toxins can be transferred to another specie but anyway, probably it doesn't worth saving, too much competition ....
Ah well, off gone as compost for the garden.
>>>Nice pic btw, bad mushroom !!
Thanks, though yes not exactly what I was hoping lol.
