I guess I'm more Compassionate than God...
    #2953291 - 08/01/04 06:54 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

I just realized something...
...I've been abused physically/sexually as a child,
I've been robbed
I've been cheated on by my wife who then promptly left me
after I paid for her Graduate schooling,
I've been cheated on by my long time girlfriend recently,
I've been lied to and decieved
I've been "laid off" several times (which was "strictly business")
etc etc...
do I forgive these people ?....yes
would I grant them Everlasting Peace, Hapiness, Bliss, Joy, Rapture ?
...YES
now tell me something , if I (or anyone for that matter)
is in immense unbearable pain
(by definition we are human, hence we have limits, hence we
have definite limits to what pain we can endure -otherwise we
would be Gods...)
and decides to end their life, God (according to all
the religious texts of the major religions) will cast me into
eternal Hell, torment, Damnation etc...
what does that tell you about God...

I am disturbed by my own present theory of God which is that God is confined to this world and altho Creator, God will always be the first and the last because of that conefinement, that's why I can't judge what is right and what is wrong, because I didn't create this world.

Pir Vilayat Khan (nice man, saw him in Boston a couple of years ago)
http://www.theabode.net
just one of the many self proclaimed gurus out there
(what can I say, I'm just a cynic :smirk: )

What you misunderstand about your own post is that God would also extend compassion to the people who wronged you.

Try not to be too cynical because Pir Vilayat Khan is no longer walking on the earth.

He didn't come out of the woodwork either, he was the eldest son of Pir-o-Murshid Hazrat Inayat Khan, who introduced Sufism to the west.

Then again:

Cynic A member of a sect of ancient Greek philosophers who believed virtue to be the only good and self-control to be the only means of achieving virtue.

Word History: A cynic may be pardoned for thinking that this is a dog's life. The Greek word kunikos, from which cynic comes, was originally an adjective meaning ?doglike,? from kun, ?dog.? The word was probably applied to the Cynic philosophers because of the nickname kun given to Diogenes of Sinope, the prototypical Cynic. He is reported to have been seen barking in public, urinating on the leg of a table, and masturbating on the street. The first use of the word recorded in English, in a work published from 1547 to 1564, is in the plural for members of this philosophical sect. In 1596 we find the first instance of cynic meaning ?faultfinder,? a sense that was to develop into our modern sense. The meaning ?faultfinder? came naturally from the behavior of countless Cynics who in their pursuit of virtue pointed out the flaws in others. Such faultfinding could lead quite naturally to the belief associated with cynics of today that selfishness determines human behavior.

I never said he wouldn't ...
no misunderstanding there...
I meant that he wouldn't be compassionate towards those who
cannot bear the suffering they might be experiencing (again
this is only according to commonly held scripture)

didn't mean to hurt u Zahid and seems that I did...my sincerest
appologies, hope u accept
I am well aware of his lineage and have visited theabode several
times and am well aquainted with his writings etc.
I just didn't "feel" anything "realized" about him when I met
him that's all...so I felt a bit dissillusioned (like when I
saw the pictures of Eckhart Tolle on sale on his web site, or
when I discovered that my moms own Guru who I idolized most of
my life was a chain smoker and a prejudiced, judgemental hypocritical
bigot)

First, commonly held scripture cant be a basis for anything: Not a witch buring, a post mortem judgement, or to discuss the 'God of Philosophers' as you're using a method that simple minded literalists use to understand God.
