fruiting probs?
    #2952996 - 08/01/04 07:14 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Well I have 8 pf cakes in the fruiting chamber, 7 of them got real fluffy and have mushrooms growing. The last one looks like a marshmallow, it didn't get poofy or develop any knots or pins. Its only been like a week and a half since it was put in there, but the other cakes already have some mature mushies. Might there be a problem with this cake, I can't see any signs of contam. When you guys pick are there still pins coming up? In a previous flush I had full grown mushroom and more pins coming up, should I pick as they mature or is it better to wait till they are mostly ready

It is possiable you got the water content off when you first made that jar. Sounds like it might be a little dry. Try dunkin it in water for 12 hours. Yes pins are still going to be coming up when you want to pick mature shrooms. Bummer thing is you will be sacrficing some new pins to get those shrooms off. Don't worry about it. The cake will grow more. Pick them as they just are breaking the caps open. BE BRAVE.

Actually I dunked and cold shocked all of the jars before I put them in the fruiting chamber, I hope this turns out to be one of those damn things where I just need to be patient

Sometimes contam is on an inner surface of the cake in a little cavity of the cake, not able to be seen.

The cake could possibly be in a spot where it is not recieveing the right conditions (highly unlikely) in the tank.

Maybe you should put this specific cake in a casing because it's not doing you any good, but it is still living mycelium. Casing it might spawn it.

I wouldn't just trash it if it is not contammed.

I was told to pick the mushies before they spew spores all over the cakes.
