Do you mean that in the good way or the bad way? It's hard to tell these days.

LOL... so true.. damned slang.

I think he meant it in a bad way, because it looks like it's beginning to rot and it has a giant slug on it.

Actually, we refer to those as coral mushrooms.

Those look pretty similar to Clavicorona pyxidata. Try looking at the tips of the branches with a magnifier and see if they look almost like a little crown. If they do, then you have confirmed the ID.

Happy mushrooming!

Nice slug. I believe what you have there is Clavicorona pyxidata, Crown coral mushroom.

What gives it away is the wood substrate and the crown shaped tips. I have two guides which list it as edible, and another which says inedible. I tried these a few years ago and in my opinion they are not worth eating unless you were starving to death.

Keep looking; even a blind pig finds an acorn every now and then.

They definately won't trip you.
I wouldn't eat it either, it just looks gross.

Definetly a coral mushroom. Not edible in any way.

first of all qawk: he did not tell you to "trip" on them, there are no actice corals.

Clavicorona pyxidata is ediblwe, and the presence of a crown like structure on the tips of the branches would confirm this as TM mentioned abiove. as for his and shroomydan's quess, i agree.

now shroomydan: do not advise anyone to consume a fungus they have not confirmed to be edible if there is any question that it could be toxic. corals are tricky as i'm sure you well know.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Someone said that it is not edible, maybe this specie not but i used to find many beutyfull coral shrooms and most of them were ok to eat ... I don't know for this specie , but there are also edible ( and very tasty ) coral species ...

You should look in some shroom description books..

be advised that most corals are next to impossible to identify.
