datura (for real this time)
    #2951192 - 08/01/04 10:25 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

note: i hope the mods understand why i made a new thread for this. my previous so called datura thread turned out to be a chilly pepper thread..

okay here's what i had a while ago. according to the seedpack, this is a datura metel, however, it does not resemble the metel pics on erowid, as the flowers on there are clearly purple, not white.

unfortunately, as i kept the plant so small, it has given up on producing flowers already (and i was stupid enought not to save those), but it does still have 2 nice looking seedpods.

question: do these pods turn a brownish colour when they mature and crack open by themselves? and does the plant die when that happens?

The flowers look like an inoxia.
The pods do crack open when ripe. You might want to tie a plastic bag round them, to catch the seeds...
But I don't think the plants die when that happens. Hopefully A'naglekya (sp?!) or someone experienced with this plant will come along...

It is inoxia, mine die back every year, but it has come back for at least 3 years. It was fucking huge when I became its care taker so it is probably older than that. If you are looking at it from a consumption standpoint, they aren't the strongest. I would tell you my usual dosage but I don't want this to get locked so I won't...

I have a Datura Metel in my house currently growing... It has one deep purple flower on it right now and many buds... but NO seedpods so far... I'm thinking about making a tea out of some of leaves pretty soon... When will it get seedpods? Can I tell when?

You'll get seedpods after the flowers die, if they're pollinated. It'll be a while before they mature, though.
I wouldn't remove any leaves at the moment if I were you. Shocking plants is generally a good way to make flowers fall off. And then you'll get no seed pods.
Edit: [Usual warning!] be careful, it doesn't sound like you've experienced daturas before, and metel is reported to be the most potent. If you mess up it will punish you.

I personally don't believe in plant energies, but...

I found belladonna growing in what I have always considered to be the spooky part of my town, but I think it's probably spooky due to all the big, gothic-style victorian houses...
It is interesting that when I decided to look for it, I went straight to that part of town and found it, and have not found any anywhere else since, even though I have searched several times all over my town and my friend's town, and in the woods near me.
It seems that there is one wild plant in the whole of the east midlands, and I instinctively knew where to find it!

I think when my datura flowers, I'll just stay out of the garden after dark, just in case! Too many people say that it tempts you, lures you to your death...

I also get a VERY uneasy feeling near the sea after dark, especially when it's rough. It scares the shit out of me, for some reason! If a wave crashes into a sea wall or a cliff and the spray comes anywhere near me, I literally have to run away like a little girl .
I love rough seas during the day though.

There's some brugmansia trees in one of my neighbors yard and it emits a strange energy at night that can be felt though most of the neighborhood and seems to permiate from the trees.

I have some that have, but then again, there are others of the same spp near by.
