Give Him Some Truth
    #2950515 - 08/01/04 01:37 AM (13 years, 1 month ago)

What would you say has been a major realization of truth you've had about life? What was realized in your Eureka moment? Please don't deny truth. How could you deny truth in the face of Einstein and Steve Winwood? Or Kaku. I would say the truth I'm trying to untagle is the realization that "your inside is out, when your outside is in". The weirdness that everything outside of you is really just within you is beyond everything I know. I know that reality really is nothing like that at all, but my head is just playing a lengthy game. Life is like what Terrence McKenna said, somehow designed to be exactly how one would expect a reassuring life to be like for a human being. The ultimate truth I would think would be the total realization of nature, light, and music.

What does Einstein or any human being have to do with your truth?

One of the craziest things that came to my realization was that our life doesnt matter (my thoughts have changed since then, but it was crazy). THe universe is INFINATE and every expanding. We are getting smaller and smaller in comparison. Do you think our life will have an effect on that? Absolutely not. But more focused on our world, if the world as we know it dies off someday, then your impact on life/society has aboslutely no effect at all, since all humans/life is gone (given the belief in no afterlife). And if life as we know it were to live on forever(for infinity), then your life makes not difference because your thoughts and actions would be (and would have to be) replaced by someone else. Every thought you have had will have been thought up by someone else, or at least a collection of people.
What the crazy thing is after knowing this, fully convincing myself (well it was my friend who realized this with me), we both knew when we woke up the next morning we were going to go to work? Why? We KNEW that it doesnt matter.

Like I said, my beliefs have changed. Well maybe not my beliefs, but I have raised question that there is nothing else after your dead. Its weird, but I can almost accept either outcome. I am hoping shroomers are going to help me come to an answer, or at least closer to. But then again, when you trip and "figure out the universe", did you really figure it out - your were almost shown, or was it a realization through your own subconcious beliefs that really are totally false? I think even if it were the later case, I would still like to accept it. I want to be part of something bigger, I want to think that this life as we know it is like a small step in our life, perhaps the beggining?

-Merlin.

You are inseperable from the universe. Your current body is a temporary mode of existence. Your ego is a temporary mode of existence. This too, shall pass.

The purpose of life is to continually strive for improvement and enrichment, to constantly evolve, emotionally, mentally, physically, spiritually.

My biggest 'awakening' so far was when I realized that I am not insignificant at all. The universe may be infinite, but it goes inwards as well as out. I myself am a universe within a universe. Every thought and action I take, no matter how small it may seem to others, has a profound impact on everything else.

The greatest truth that I have discovered in life came to me from St Thomas Aquinas. He wasn't right about everything, and even admitted at the end of his life that his philosophy was "all straw". However, his teachings about the transcendental perfections of Oneness, Truth, Goodness, and Beauty are the most profound thing I have ever contemplated. It seems when ever i post about these things either no-one responds, or I'm accused of spouting gibberish. Well it's not my gibberish. If you want to know about truth read Aquinas's "Summa Theologica" it's available on the net; do a search for "Truth" once your inside it. This man is arguably the greatest philosopher of all time.

This is a spirituality and philosophy forum; it would be nice if every now and then we could actually see some constructive arguments here instead of all this random opinion. Maybe I'm expecting too much.

And yes, Einstien was a philosopher as well as a scientist, and he did discover some truth. His special theory of relativity, with it's famous equation E=mc2, was significant because it predicted that matter and energy are really different forms of the same thing; this was later proved  empirically when Paul Dirac discovered antimatter in 1939. This is important to philosophy, which by the way means "Love of Wisdom", because it reconciled Aristotle's hylomorphic theory of reality with modern physics.

My rant is now over.
I love you all and will be praying for you.

  :heart:Peace
