Amazonians.
    #2950236 - 07/31/04 11:53 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

hey everyone. This is my first time Growing mushrooms. I've chosen the amazonian strain of Psilocybe Cubensis. I've currently innoculated 3 1/2 pint jars with a rice/vermiculate substrate and vermiculate casing.i've been reading this buisiness that they need a 'cold shock'. I'm not too sure what that is any information would be greatly appreciated (as well as any growing tips)
Thanks =)

Cold shocking is reducing the temperatute once your cakes are completely colonized. Look at eh FAQ's and look around this site for info on growing.

would you say that amazonians require the cold shock or will they grow without it?

First off, you need to do some more research. BUt ill go ahead with it anyways.
There are three things that colonized sunstrate need for pinning.
1. Light
2. Temperature change i.e. cold shocking
3. Air exchange.

Yes, all cubensis will need a type of cold shocking to pin. There are a couple different methods for doing it though. some people use a method of warming them during the day and cooling them at night, and pesonally i prefer to do it this way. It seems to make them pin quicker. Also you need to think about wether your going to case these or not. I would suggest it. cakes alone dont gie off a whole lot. But being your first time go ahead with just fruiting them as they are.

about half the ppl say cold shocking doesnt even work. i did it for the hell of it, heh. i just put the jar when its ready to birth in the fridge for a couple hours. one jar i put in the edit**freezer and was supposed to take it out 15 minutes later, instead i left it for 50 minutes. it was so very cold, almost frozen i assume.. i put it back in my incubator for a couple hours then birthed it. i see some pins today.

if you have cakes, basically get a gallon or two ice cream tub, eat all the ice cream... fill it up with water and a little hydrogen peroxide, put the cakes in toss the lid on, and put it in the fridge for 24 hours. After that, roll em around in verm and put them back in the tub... I've gotten b+ cakes to flush around 16 times doing this. The fruits use up way more water than they do nutrients, so if you replenish the water, they will grow and grow and grow. If you want some pics on this, you can check out http://www.mindorgy.net/gallery/setupsnstuff the pics are towards teh bottom of the page.
