Hey all I decided to get back into this thing after a long hiatus. I found this site back in 2000-2001 and tried my hand at PF cakes with some success then in 2019 after a divorce and a taste of freedom I decided to go all in and had quite a few successful grows using bods teks.
Here we are 7 years later and going to give it a go again!
I’m excited to learn all the new and improved methods and science that’s been discovered by this community.

Hello everyone, I'm happy to have joined and learn from the experts, I am new to cultivation and am excited to finally have a go! I know Cubes are generally recommended to start with but with the temps and humidity where I live Pan Cyan's using pasteurised manure in a automated fruiting chamber will be what I tackle for my maiden voyage on this journey! :mushroom2:

Hello all. I made a post the other day but it was kind of impulsive and sporadic.

I am new to cultivating mushrooms, I have been super interested in it since High School. I remember sitting and looking at this exact website terrified my mom was going to see the blue mushrooms in the background on the family computer haha. Shroomery and Erowid were my two favorite site to visit, and for some reason I had convinced myself that growing mushrooms was impossibly hard and I'd never figure it out. Well, last year I ended up moving to a house in the middle of nowhere, quite literally surrounded by cow fields. I hadn't until a couple months ago considered growing, idk why. I had a few cannabis harvests with my grow tent and didn't want to start a new grow as I already had a bunch of dried bud and was getting bored with it. I decided to actually finally look into growing these guys and I was surprised at how easy it seemed. Now, I'm a certified arborist and have done tree work for 15 years so I think that has helped a lot of this come naturally, and having an insane case of untreated ADHD helps as well with the hyperfocus. I ordered an amazon spawn bag and a GT spore syringe on accident when I meant to order LC, so I went to amazon and got the 3 pack of vials "LC starter" thing to shoot the rest of the spores into that I hadn't used on my spawn bag and divided the last 5ml or so into the 3 small jars. When I ordered the LC starter vials I also went ahead and ordered an APE3 LC syringe because I figured "why not?". Why not try both ends of the spectrum for the first grow?  Before I ever harvested my first flush I had 4 or 5 tubs going, 12ish agar plates, three 500ml LC jars, two GT and one APE3. I now have 8 tubs, the blue "Hefty" one is GT and has had one flush, currently underway on the 2nd. I have tried a few different methods like "STFC" and some unmodified. I have a bag of cow shit I have sous-vide'd in my air fryer thing that I'm going to throw in my next substrate mix as another expiriment. I have had exactly 0 contamination somehow, probably just jynx'd myself but whwtaver. I am insanely over-the-top when it comes to sanitization and safe practices I'm sure that helps. I have gone in head-first and have acquired so many things lol. Pressure cooker, magnetic stirrer, SAB, jars, impulse sealer, scalpels, filters, etc. I love it so much. I recently moved al my tubs into my grow tent for organization purposes and I just like how it looks. I got some "blue-rich" lights to aid in their formation and the second flush of GT's definitely seems better than the first was. I also have been taking the little bit of myc left stuck to the bottom of my jars when I S2B and scraping it off with a butter knife, and mixing it with dried/powdered manure I gather by hopping my fence and shoveling it into buckets. In turn I give the cows saltines. It's a whole system.  But the other day I finally got a few to pop up!

Hopefully they continue to pop. Cloning is what I want to tackle next! Also this post has as well turned impulsive and sporadic lol. Oh well.

How long did it take your GT to colonize the liquid culture? Mine seems to be taking forever from spores. Not the best way to do it, but here we are.

Once I shot the spores into the vials it was probably 3-4 days before I saw white clouds forming. That 3 pack of vials is like $13 on Amazon, they're just like pre-made LME liquid but they work.

Mine have been going 19 days and I am seeing very little growth. My vials were from MGK. I have seen varying sources that say anywhere from 5 to 30 days. I guess patience is a virtue in this game.

Yeah mine was the Midwest "quickculture" thing. I shot just spores into a 3lb bag and it took foreeeever that's why I ended up ordering APE3 LC and the quick culture thing. I thought it was a bad spawn bag or something for awhile but it just eventually started growing. The quickculture thing, I could only see spores floating in it for a couple days and then slowly it started showing up

Welcome fellas!:mushroom2: thanks for signing on and sharing!

Spores to LC is a dangerous game. Spores are inherently dirty, and LC is a more advanced technique. It will save you lots of time and heartache, if instead you learn agar first.

Then you know the culture is clean, losing one grain spawn jar to a bad transfer is a loss. Injecting a dozen with LC of unknown sterility hurts. Do what you will, but I've learned the hard way, and watched many others do the same.

Keep it clean my friends! Here's some links on working towards LC the right way.

Yeah, it's like the forbidden to talk about, but I don't mind sharing. I used to get clean spore syringes from Pukesters when that's the only place I could get something to play with.  Yeah, well, his work went to shit (mislabeling and contamination), and when you lose a round of jars (7) to a spore syringe, yup, time to up the game and learn Agar, it is the way.  Real talk, I did my Peace River prints in a SAB, it doesn't matter, still slightly bacterial, that's why we clean them up, I personally, like to do a T1 or 2, and put the tiniest piece to a jelly jar, if it's clean, your ahead of the game, if not, do another Xfer.  I don't recommend this with the first plate, T1, T2 only, I have been lucky going from the original at times, but IME, it's miss more than hit and just isn't worth it.  My 2 cents... first purchase for me... was a PC... best choice I ever made.  Enjoy the process... and GL

Just a housekeeping request - As a matter of posting practice, please keep all vendor names out of posts. We have "Trusted Vendors" that are available through the link at the top of the page. From what I understand, their support keeps the lights on here. Thanks much & peace to all.
