For this price, you should build a small HEPA. It's way much easy to operate.

thats about $20 in materials for that glovebox, from the looks of it the top isnt sealed, if you omit the fan and use the lid as the base you will have no problems with using it for a glovebox

after looking around on that site I would suggest avoiding it, many of the pictures came from SporeWorks as well as a couple of other shroomery vendors

Does anybody have and good drawings or just a verbal glove box plan?

I have heard of using a rubbermaid container with a hepa sealed into the side.

Then you spray the inside with isopropyl alc and wipe, turn on the hepa and air is forced out of the gaps preventing the entry of nasty particles.

I assume that "dishwashing gloves" would be installed on the box as well. A coulple of 3 or 4 inch rubber pipe coupling that were caulked into place with gloves attached on the inside with tight string, rubber band, or a clamp would probably work.

somebody give me better ideas than this....

HELP!

Here at mycotopia are a lot of instructions on how to build your own glovebox.

hell just use your oven, turn it to 400 deg. for about 45 min. then get everything ready to incc. turn the temp down to about 200, pull out the bottom rack slightly (make sure your doing this all in the oven not outside of the oven), then proced with the innc. i do this every time now instead of wasting time sertilizing a glove box and i havent had a jar go bad yet

have fun.

You don't need a glove box, wipe the entire work space down with alcohol, and spray the air with air sanitizer, don't be afraid to go a lil overboard, better to be cleaner than needed.

Cleaning is a pain in the ass. I just want a tiny area where I can do g2g and liquid spawn experiments (just one or two jars at a time.) I don't want to go through a whole can of Oust every two days. I think a GB would be cheaper. I don't care how ghetto it is, as long as it's functional.

my gb is just a tote with the lid duct taped onto and I used a dremel to cut arm holes.  I use a good amount of germ-x so no need to use gloves.  Who wants to do delicate work like macerating tissue and other things with gloves on?  I just spray some bleach water in there and its good to go.  I do everything in a sterile bathroom environment   its like a mini lab.

You just bleach water it and then go?

Heres an $8 GB works excellent  what you want to achieve is "still air" when using a GB. Otherwise it's a positive pressure box  which really doesn't work any better IMO unless ya have a very good filter (99.99%). A 99.97% leaves .03 which isn't any better than a "still air" GB.

You actually still use the oven tek?
WOW! Oven tek is majorly flawed it's based on convection thats it.

I was recently told the oven tek is bogus and open stagnant air is just as safe. 12cc/quart of grain before G2G should fight most contams. If you want a unit like being sold build a glovebox then hook up a computer fan blowing into a respirator filter or small hepa filter. You can also drill a hole on the opposite side and stuff with polyfill so you have some sterile airflow. I used a respirator and a thick clear bag with gloves and a zipper hotglued in the opening with success for WBS G2G.

A lot of people say the oven tek is bogus... I agree with them. The oven tek seems based on the bunsen burner principle, except that without an actuall flame I don't think it actually burns things up.

Why not just use a bunsen burner? They're fairly cheap.

Because it's it's based on convection FF not the bunsen burner. Heat riases so in theory nothing can fall on the plate or in the jar, the oven tek when used in conjuction with large pan can make the over tek work better than open air transfers. The pan BTW blocks the air from rising straight up, this air is by no means sterile (fact)anyway take from this what you will guys. And GL

The bunsen burner is also based on convection. The burned air rises up and then comes back down right around the bunsen if you have no drafts. This creates a small area of clean air and a contamination free surface directly around the burner.(fact) I can dig up some literature using google if you would like.

I'm sure that the oven tek has some small benefit, but why oven when you can bunsen? $10-$20 for the burner and a $3 tank of propane will get you going. They are really useful to have in your lab anyway.

Don't forget the deposit on the tank  My question to you is why not build a el cheapo GB for half that price and twice the efficiency?
