Could someone identify this mushroom?
    #2946438 - 07/30/04 11:05 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

I found this when I was up visiting Idaho. I cut a small piece from the inside and put it in karo. It seems to be growing a little, i see small myc-like stuff comming off of it now. Is this Lions Mane? Or any type of mushroom at all? Thanks!

those are mushrooms.
they are not lion's mane.
they are some kind of puffball.
they might be lycoperdon echinatum.

Hey Fucknuckle, what kind of a response is that?  How is it impossible?  Maybe you should do some more research on the subject before you open your mouth with those types of responses

Oh and Eric, thanks for your response

Hm. Well you do know we have a mushroom hunting forum for these kind of questions?

Flipping through "Mushrooms Demystified", the closest looking thing to what is in your picture might be Calvatia sculpta, or maybe even Calvatia subsculpta.

Maybe not but, i'm not really sure to tell ya the truth.

'Says Calvatia sculpta is well known in the Sierra Nevada mountains, the Cascades and other western mountains.
Found under or near Conifer trees.
