How the F do I get the humidity to rise?????????????????
    #2946213 - 07/30/04 09:37 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

I have my cake in the fruiting chamber and I'm starting to see little white balls primordia more in likely, but the humidity is still around 80%

Temp is 71 degress and I have an 1 1/2 - 2 inches of perlite soaked good, but not to much and the humidity never goes any higher than 80%.

Should I maybe move them to a warmer location because doesn't warm air help the humidity go up?

Everyone that can help me please do. I've done everything I can think of and don't know what to do next. PLEASE HELP

put a glass of h20 in the terrarium as well to help the humidity rise a little.

Are the walls inside your terrarium wet/damp? if they are then your humidity is ok

What type of Hygrometer do you have? Is there any holes in your terrarium? what are you using for a terarium? If you move your terrarium to a warmer area, it could mess with your pinning.

Thanks for the help.

Yes there are a lot of water droplets in the terrariam.

No holes in it for the humidity to get out. I also have a fish pump pumping a small amount of air in there. It's a clear rubbermaid container.

I just have a dial temp/humidity guage I got off ebay.

For some reason my computer won't upload my pics, sorry.

Your humidity is just fine if there are water droplets...

Is it ok for the cake if I mist it with a very low mix of Isypropal alcohol 70% and water to keep it moistand contam free? or should it be just plain water?

Yeah if you wanna kill everything...Read some more Dude
Its ok if you wanna mist the terrarium but just use distilled h20
Dont mist them when they are forming knots ...you can use a 3% mixture of hydrogen peroxide added to the water you use in the perlite

I doubt if your hygrometer has been calibrated correctly. Carry out this procedure if you wanna be sure:

I had the exact same problem, my hygrometer wouldn't budge past 80%, the walls of the chamber are misty with beads of water etc... I fan 3-4 times a day and mist maybe once every couple of days and a few days ago pinning began. My hygrometer cost about ?12 (roughly $23), as long as the cakes keep pinning I'm not too concerned what the hygrometer says!!

It's not always a good factor to judge by the condensation. The humidity is the main factor for the dew point, and at over 75%, you can get condensation easily at 75F. If you have trouble raising the humidity, raise the temp a little (if that's possible). You are fine up to 76F, and it won't add any more trouble to the fruiting. When I used to do cakes, the real problem I had was water sitting on the cake. I couldn't keep it dry and humid at the same time so I brought it up to 78 and it did wonders.
