keep them taped up till they are about half colonized. then remove the tape.

tape is messy, hard to remove, and unreliable imo...just forget the tape and leave the aluminum foil lid on top of the mason jar lid. remove aluminum foil lid while innoculation then when finished put the aluminum foil lid back on and incubate.

once the jar is half colonized remove the aluminum foil lid and turn the jars upside down until they finish colonizing.

The verm layer protects from contams. A week after I see growth I remove all tape.Turn upside down. :goodluck:

I am doing my first run with some B+ and some Puerto Rican. I Boiled the BRF cakes with a good thick layer of dry verm on top. Doubled up on tin foil and tight lids for sterile seal until inoculation. Did not replace tape on holes for good air flow, though I have in a cleaned up storage container to keep cons out.

Also in a few of the jars of each I doubled up on the CC to see what works as far as speed up processes and what not.

I also through a couple CCs in a cake pan cake I made of BRF with some verm on top with plastic lid doubled up just for kicks. This is true experimenting I believe my jars are good to go and the cake pan I have my doubts.

Wish me luck on the no tape. Ill keep the updates day to day if I can.

AOT

In My Experience: Keep the tape on until colonization has slowed. It's just the best way to keep out baddies.
