Does Apple have a case?

Apple Computer on Thursday accused RealNetworks of hacking its popular iPod after the competitor released software that lets iPod users download songs from RealNetworks' own RealPlayer music store. Click here for full story. Comment: Who cares what theyre (the 2 companies) are going through with this, the consumer always wins with all this because it makes our experience better when it comes to legal downloading of music. Instead of keeping a tight grip and keeping thier tecnology so close to thier chest, they should all combine thier knowledge and offer something that actually competes with the free music market. Greed can sometimes not suck.

... and Microsoft should opensource their OS code 'cause it is the right thing to do, yes? Competition is good, but theft (which is what Real Networks did) is not. Why didn't Real Networks talk with Apple and license the technology? Just because something is neat doesn't mean that everybody else in the world has the right to take it or use it without paying...

Are you fucking kidding me? That's like Sony suing Sam Goody because they sell CDs that can play on Sony CD players. Sounds positively Gatesian to me.

Look, Apple has been getting fucked for decades because of shit like this. Because they're one of the only innovative tech companies out their, everyone itches to swipe their shit. I'm more than glad that they're taking a stand for themselves.

They got hosed by Microsoft, but this has no shot. Nor should it. And they're being stupid. If you can only legally download songs from the iPod shop, and other sites crop up, as they will, iPod sales will go in the toilet. Same mistake, different decade?

this case is very different. Consider it the consumer's voice.
Besides which, certain freeware + opensource OS that highly resemble Microsoft get fucked up the ass. Microsoft will sue anyone who they disagree with, and they disagree with anyone that it would be profitable to disagree with.
Yes, Microsoft can keep itself close-sourced. No, it should not go suing everyone who can take anything useful from Microsoft software. Furthermore, Microsoft is incapable of making secure and good software, yet is highly supported because they shoot down competition with legal issues.
Why should Apple be allowed to determine the use of its hardware once you already own it?

I admit, I'm on shaky ground in this arena, but does realplayer have to get permission to have software that can read .wmv? That seems akin to this.
