I can't wait til the debate! It's going to be funny. There will be a lot of pauses in between the words both men speak.

Kerry....will....pause...in...between....words because he wants each word to have more gravity. Bush...will....pause....in...between....words because he has a lot of trouble with the English language.

Where did you get his records from Congress? I'd like to seem them. I haven't had too much luck when I've tried looking up political records.

I thought his speech was excellent even though I always remain sceptacle of such speeches. The biggest problem is often that if a speech is written in a manner that actually addresses important issues, then it's written off as pessmisitic and doesn't reach the lowest common denominator. I felt Kerry's speech was tactful enough to deliver an emotional impact without simply pandering to people's ideals.

Now I'm only talking about how well written the speech is, not saying that Kerry is necessarly going to be the answer to our problems. I still have my doubts, but I was impressed none the less.

--------------------
The very nature of experience is ineffable; it transcends cognitive thought and intellectualized analysis. To be without experience is to be without an emotional knowledge of what the experience translates into. The desire for the understanding of what life is made of is the motivation that drives us all. Without it, in fear of the experiences what life can hold is among the greatest contradictions; to live in fear of death while not being alive.

I agree 100% It's nice to not really care about the debates because I won't be voting for any of them. I can actually be objective. Imagine that?

Wrong, Kerry....will....pause...in...between....words because he wants to make sure his lie is hard to track back to his voting record.

Bush...will....pause....in...between....words because he has to find a way to tell us that we are in grave danger, but to live life like we always have.

c-span.org <---how i watched it

admittedly, though i liked parts of the speech and was impressed with it, the speech pained me at times when he would criticize bush about the war and indirectly refer to the PATRIOT act when he voted for both. Its hard to get past that.

Do you guys think that swing voters watch the Democratic convention much?

...more inaccurate negative ads and more fear-based rhetoric. And more of a shift from the big bad imminent threat of WMD to the greatness of nation building...

And as President, I will bring back this nation's time-honored tradition: the United States of America never goes to war because we want to, we only go to war because we have to. - Kerry

i watched c-span.org through the satellite. it was annoying watching all the fucking audience at times. yawn. why is the bandwagon to hate george bush nowadays? i mean seriously, thats the gayest trend yet.

even if kerry would serve as a better president and i'd kill for a different party up there because this is getting old fast, i still think that no politician has ever been hated more then gbush. its crazy. why has noone shot him yet?

I consider myself a swing voter.

I will be watching both candidates' speeches carefully.

But Kerry hasnt had a chance to piss me off while acting as president, so that gives him an advantage in my mind.

I can envision a few scenarios where it could happen, but I admit it is unlikely.

but if viscious, killer aliens bent on destroying the human race were trying to invade earth, I would probably vote for bush because he would give them hell. Whereas a democrat would have some one-eyed lesbian running the military, and we would all die.

HA HA...it would almost be worth watching before we die.

So you're saying that a republican would be better at defense than a democrap?

You're not being a good little drone. Analyze and question = bad, Accept without question = good.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

I'm not willing to make a generalized commitment to either party's defensive capabilities. As always with me, it depends on the situation. I think fighting terrorism requires a combination of force and diplomacy, and Bush doesnt seem to know the meaning of the latter term. If we were fighting an opponent like Nazi Germany, though, I think Bush would do a damn fine job. But terrorism isnt naziism, despite how often the comparison is made.
Honestly I think Kerry stands a better chance of solving the problem as painlessly as possible.

I would say it depends on the Republican and it depends upon the enemy. In the case that DoctorJ described where there are aliens bent upon the destruction of earth, I don't think most Democrats would have the balls to do what needs to be done. On the other hand, if we're combating an ideology, such as Jihadism, I think a Democrat would be more likely to see the big picture and understand that you can't win a war like that by force alone. Of course, people are individuals, not parties, so one Republican or one Democrat may be more qualified than another Republican or Democrat. FDR, for example, was a rather hawkish Democrat. I find it interesting that while most libertarians on this board consider him one of the worst presidents ever, a friend of mine who was in the army and is a staunch Republican considers him to be one of the best ever.
